467 Dauphin Street
467 Dauphin Street combines both its history and location to become a community resource known as Swain’s Apothecary. Located in the area known as the Gap, which is primarily residential, Swain Apothecary will be a store with unique products that cater to locals Natalie and Michelle who cannot wait to bring home a new house plant. The name “Swain” is a call back to the past occupants of this building, Harvey Swain & Sons, a dry goods grocer. 467 Dauphin will also have residential space on the second floor which fits in with the surrounding area.
Our new facade for 467 Dauphin takes inspiration from other 1860s grocers with new transom windows and hand painted signs. To add a modern touch, the building now has larger windows that allow for more light. Sanborn maps show there was a metal balcony that wrapped around the corner of the building which our design reinstates. In order to create access to this new balcony, the second floor windows are expanded.
