119 Dauphin St.
119 Dauphin Street strips away the mid-century facade to become a part of the historic street as both commercial and residential space. This new facade takes precedent from the surrounding streetscapes, historic photos, and Sanborn maps that show a one-story gallery that was once a feature of the site. On the ground level, La Galerie pays homage to the French influence of Mobile as a Parisian inspired coffee shop. The upper floors of this building utilize the historic window openings to create high-end apartments above the bustling Mainstreet of Dauphin. Locals like Abhi and Bear love being in the middle of the action and the apartments at 119 Dauphin are the ideal place to live. Plus, Abhi loves to sit on his balcony with Bear and watch all the events that happen at Beneville Square.
To contribute to Mobile’s larger sense of place, the classical pediments of the new 119 Dauphin Street facade use the celestial star emblems which can be seen as anchors on other buildings from similar periods. With the removal of the mid-century facade and reconfiguring the entrance, the building utilizes all of its floors.
